Venus Chess Academy is the initiative of Mr. RavindraDongre, former international chess player, Treasurer of the All Indian Chess Federation (AICF)and Chairman of Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA).

It was established in the year 1999 with a view to impart chess training to promising youngsters and to organize major national and international chess events.

In a span of 15-years, Venus Chess Academy has added the following feathers in its cap:

  1. It has entered the ‘Limca Book of Records’ for web casting ‘Live’ the games of National Men’s and National Women’s Championship 2003live for the first time in the history of sports in the country.
  2. Organized Commonwealth Chess Championship in April 2003 with resounding success. The event received the highest ever publicity in print, web and TV arena.
  3. The success of previous year was replicated in the year 2004 when the Commonwealth Chess Championship was again hosted. Again, the event received unprecedented publicity and was appreciated by the chess fraternity across the world.
  4. Organized Children Chess Festival in January 2005 wherein more than 1000 children participated. The then World Junior Champion, GM P. Harikrishna gave simultaneous chess display and was chief guest for the closing ceremony.
  5. Organized COMPLAN National Sub Junior in November 2005, which was contested by the top junior players across the country. This 8-day event wassponsored by Heinz India Pvt. Ltd.
  6. In April 2006 Venus Chess Academy organized one of the largest International Rating Chess Tournament at Thakur Education Society, Mumbai with a prize money of Rs.400000/- (Rupees Four Lacs only). This event attracted more 250 participants from across the country.
  7. A hat-trick of ‘COMMONWEALTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP’ was achieve by hosting the 2006 edition for a record third time in a row from 19th November to 29th November 2006. The event was organized in a unique glass Pyramid (Largest in Asia) at Eskay Resort, Borivli.
  8. On behalf of the All India Chess Federation, it has successfully organized Asian Junior chess championship from 2007 at Goregaon sports club.
  9. The academy was exclusively selected to execute the ‘Complan Talent Search Programme’ for chess. The scheme was successfully executedin 80 schools across Mumbai and 40 children were earmarked for special training.
  10. The academy was bestowed the honour of conducting the Mumbai Mayor’s Cup since 2008 and has continued to hold the same uninterrupted. The event is now recognized as the ‘Largest Prize Money’ tournament with a record prize pool of 24 Lacs rupees.
